We're back from the Dominican Republic…and for the last 24+ hours I've been in and out of sleep while fighting a nasty fever.  My immune system is such a weenie.

I hope I didn't call anyone.

Throughout the day, I've been vaguely aware of reading a book, waking confused and wondering if it was day or night (kept the shades down tight) and where I was; if I'd ever feel better, and whether the folks from the merry band of go-ers (Williamsburg Christian Academy) and Iglesias Cristiana Bendicion folks realize their impact on my life. And I was thirsty for coffee con leche.

I am a girl who likes my coffee and the Dominican's coffee con leche is hands-down the very best coffee I've ever enjoyed.  Better than cafe au lait in Strasbourg, better than Kaffee at the base of the Watzmann after descending the glacier, and better than the soy stuff I order from the local 'Bucks.

Because the best cups of coffee are shared in good company.

This last 10 days was all about good company.

And getting way out of the comfort zone.

And freaking out (while still asleep) about bugs.

And meeting family for the first time.

I don't dare to try to explain "How to make the perfect cup of coffee con leche" ; I'll let these guys do that.

But I will fling open the apartment wide for friends to camp out around the table, on the patio, and the floor – to savor the very best coffee I can find.

Because it's not about the coffee, but the company.

  1. I love how Cafe con Leche affects you. I love the kind of company you are as you drink it. Your laugh gets louder and your smile…bigger! Your stories get crazier…and the sparklers…sparkier. (are those words). Al Pal…YOU are what makes Cafe con Leche so enjoyable!

  2. It is indeed a wonderful thing. Wish I had some now.

Also, did you try a zapote shake?
