Gillian Welch is singing "I'll Fly Away", the blind one-eyed cat is bumping into a new obstacle, and the cabbie in the BBC's recent article about Gainesville is honking for his kids.  And two boxes of Christmas cards, an atlas, business cards, an old Scrabble game, bills, a DVD, sketch book, and the spectre of my tax return litter my table.

Oh – I would like to fly away.

How did this North Georgia life become so distracted and busied and thirsty? Same song – different verse – with a bluegrass beat.  (sigh.)  It's not "THEM"…it's me.

So this morning, I prayed, "Lord – no more grandiose gestures of attention on a weekend…a verse on the hoof or stories that remind me of you on the way to work.  I just want more of you.  Less of the other stuff."  I opened my Message bible – the one missing the back cover – and read this in Luke 10, "Not what you do for God but what God does for you—that's the agenda for rejoicing."

I think he heard me.
