I am learning to dance…sort of…metaphorically (which should cause you all to sigh in relief.)  This Adventure of learning to live with uncertainty and not knowing, in unfamiliarity and not being in charge, to let God lead is as daunting as learning to Two Step.

The Two Step may be easy for you, but not for me.  Stupefyingly simple to most, there is a reason I'm a wallflower…I don't know the difference between following and taking the lead.  I'm always trying to figure out the next move and not just rest in and trust the lead.

I once dated a guy who loved to dance and he was great at it.  It was fun and didn't last long which could be attributed to the fact that I cannot dance to save my life – unless you're asking for a bit of Free Style moves.  But when I do whip out my signature Free Style, I hear murmured references to Elaine dancing on Seinfeld (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xi4O1yi6b0).

Once in an abandoned mill far far away in a century that has already past… friends at Georgia Southern tried to teach me how to dance the cotton eyed joe, electric slide, two-step…  It was grim.   Even now, when I see Mad Dog at the grocery store, that I want to run.  Screaming.  (My friends probably feel the same way if they remember that night.)

Letting someone lead.

It's not that I'm controlling.

It's that no one who's job it was – stepped up to lead and care and protect when I was a kid and so I learned to do it on my own.  And that means that learning to dance and follow anyone's lead – including God's – makes me break out into a sweat and feel like a 9th grader at the freshman dance…who's just spilled the entire contents of the punch bowl on my dress.

So this is my hope, that with all of the varieties of Two Step – and there are many – that I'll learn one passably at least.  I've got my options, too, and some that make me blush (not a difficult feat.)  But first and foremost, I want desperately to learn to let God lead; to follow him in the uncertainty of the dance.  To trust him.

And maybe in the process, I'll look ridiculous enough out there that other folks will warm up and join the party.
