Fleeting.

Swift.

Vapor.

It is good to be reminded of the changing seasons

the meetings and partings

the tininess of breath.

This morning, I thought about how quickly these past few months have flown and also

how

very

slowly.

I thought about the chance to buzz to Kansas to see Madi and Kenan

and Christmastime when the world sings a little sweeter

and people hold the door for one another

and can be heard

humming

songs of family, hope, togetherness, worship, and resounding joy.

Fleeting.

And we want to hold onto it and make it Christmas all year round because of the tenderness

of Yuletide

and the untested promise of the coming New Year.

And yet it is all so fleeting.

Soon, summer will come around with heat and humid days

the ordinary weeks will return

the stockings and sparklies will be packed in their rest

friends will come and go

days will follow

and one day we will rest

and be memory.

It is all so fleeting.

Let's live in this moment with intention

earnest

endurance

joy.

Let us not grow weary in doing good:

driving the kids to school

filing that TPS report (with a bigger picture in mind)

shoveling the walk

listening to your mum talk about her world which seems so very very small.

Your dad talk about checking the oil and childhood games of cow pie baseball.

Let us remember that she

or he

once recognized their youth and vibrance

and wealth of possibilities.

Let us take the snow day with joy.

Leave the dishes in the sink.

Play

and curl up with ideas, adventures, prayer, and good friends

around old movies.

Let us laugh

and fill each fleeting moment

with our presence.

Today is the day to do it;

love

share

pray

giggle

bake

celebrate

forgive

and take a walk under starry skies.

Today is fleeting.

Enjoy it.

Enjoy something in it at least.

Merry Merry Christmas and a happy year's end

& New Year's beginning.

Woohoo.

WOOHOO!

  1. Thank you, Holland. That is a happy thought for today! I had to get that out on the blog so I could finish a project so it tumbled out… Merry Christmas, Grace-Hearted Holland.
